In training programmes and process facilitation, the School of Creative Thinking applies different methods and models. We highlight some of these on this page. During a training we will teach you techniques on how to apply methods and models effectively. For example the COCD-box®.
Torrance Incubation Model
We design our courses based on the Torrance Incubation Model of Teaching and Learning, TIM for short. Originally created by Paul Torrance and further developed by Mary Murdock (one of Torrance’s students) and Susan Keller-Mathers at the Center for Applied Imagination at Buffalo State University, New York.
The Torrance Incubation Models fit perfectly with the concepts of Collaborative Learning and Lifelong Learning. The use of this model makes the courses of the School of Creative Thinking interactive and hands-on. What you learn can be applied in your own situation. If you would like to delve deeper into certain aspects on an individual basis, then we provide ways to do that. It requires you to step out of your comfort zone and that is how you learn.
Creative Problem Solving model
To devise solutions with the creative mindset, the School of Creative Thinking uses the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) model. The CPS model was developed as a counterpart to and complement of critical thinking. One of the first versions of this model was developed by Alex Osborn and Sid Parnes in the 20th century. It has evolved from a linear model into a dynamic model that enables you to develop solutions iteratively. The CPS-model now includes thinking and affective skills. These will help you to think in a focused and productive way at every stage of the process.
FourSight Thinking Profile
Innovation demands creative thinking: a combination of insight, imagination, analysis and action. FourSight® is a creative thinking profile, consisting of four different styles of thinking. Based on over 20 years of practical knowledge and research, this simple but powerful tool measures your preference for the different steps in the innovative thinking process. The profile shows you your naturally preferred style of thinking and it highlights the areas where you can make gains.
FourSight® is designed to stimulate innovation. More information about FourSight® can be found on their website. You can of course also contact the School of Creative Thinking. We have certified FourSight® facilitators who can advise you on when and how to use this tool.
Systems Model for Creative Change
The Systems Model for Creative Change provides guidance on what to focus on when leading a change. The model helps you to keep control over the process of change. The Systems Model for Creative Change was developed in 2005 by Gerard Puccio, Marie Mance and Mary Murdoch.
Branko Broekman has adapted the model so it can be used for the Creative Leadership courses at the School of Creative Thinking. The Systems Model for Creative Change allows you to keep an overview of the relationships between the individual, the environment, the process and the end result. It gives you an insight as to how these relationships influence one another. It also shows that change does not stop at the implementation stage.
